Applying for a Marriage License in Jackson County
Both applicants must go to the clerk's office together. Each person needs a valid photo ID. A driver's license, state ID, or passport all work. You will also need your Social Security number. The clerk fills in some fields from what you provide, so come prepared with accurate personal information.
Texas requires a 72-hour waiting period after the license is issued before any ceremony can take place. This comes from Texas Family Code Section 2.204. You can skip that wait if you and your partner complete the free Twogether in Texas premarital education course and show the certificate when you apply. The same certificate reduces the fee by $60. Standard fees run about $81; with the certificate, you pay about $21. The certificate is good for one year from completion. Your license stays valid for 90 days from the issue date, so plan your ceremony accordingly.
Note: Under Texas law, both parties must be at least 18. Minors need a court order removing disabilities of minority.
