Angelina County Marriage License Requirements

Both parties must appear in person to apply for a marriage license in Angelina County. Each person needs a valid photo ID and must know their Social Security number. Under Texas law effective September 1, 2017, both applicants must be at least 18 years old. No one under 18 can marry in Texas without a court order.

After the license is issued, you must wait 72 hours before holding the ceremony. This is required under Texas Family Code Section 2.204. There are exceptions to this waiting period. Active military members can get a waiver. Completing the Twogether in Texas premarital course also waives the 72-hour wait. The license is valid for 90 days from the date of issue under Texas Family Code Section 2.201.

If you are divorced less than 30 days ago, you must bring a certified copy of your divorce decree. The decree must include a judge's waiver of the 30-day remarriage waiting period under Texas Family Code Section 2.009, or you must wait out the full 30 days first.

Marriage License Fees in Angelina County

The fee to get a marriage license in Angelina County is $82.00. Certified copies of a marriage license cost $8.00 each. The clerk releases certified copies only. Plain, uncertified copies of vital records are not provided.

The Twogether in Texas program offers a meaningful discount. Couples who complete the free state-approved premarital education course receive a $60 discount on the license fee. The program is at twogetherintexas.com. The certificate waives the 72-hour waiting period and is valid for one year from course completion. You must present the certificate at the time of your license application.

Military members on active duty preparing for deployment to a hostile fire zone may be exempt from the license fee entirely. Contact the clerk's office to ask about military waivers before your visit.

Note: Angelina County only keeps marriage licenses that were issued in this county and returned for recording. Licenses from other counties are not on file here.

Certified Copies of Angelina County Marriage Records

Certified copies of marriage licenses are available from the Angelina County Clerk only. The state does not issue certified copies of marriage records. Under Texas Health and Safety Code Section 194.004, the state vital statistics office can provide information about a marriage but cannot issue a certified copy. Only the county clerk where the license was issued can do that.

To request a certified copy, visit the clerk's office in person or contact them by phone or mail. You need to provide the full names of both parties and the approximate date of the marriage. The fee is $8.00 per certified copy. The clerk handles its own records. The office does not process records from other counties.

For marriages from 1966 to present, the Texas DSHS Vital Statistics section in Austin can verify marriage facts for $20 per search. That verification is useful for basic confirmation but cannot replace a certified copy for legal purposes. DSHS can be reached at (888) 963-7111.

Corrections to Marriage Records
