Marriage License Requirements in Camp County

Both applicants must come to the clerk's office together. Each person needs a valid photo ID, such as a driver's license, state-issued ID card, or passport. You must also know your Social Security number. No blood test is required, and there is no residency requirement. Under Texas Family Code Chapter 2, any license issued in Camp County works anywhere in Texas.

The standard license fee is around $81. Couples who complete the Twogether in Texas premarital education course pay just $21. The certificate from that course also waives the 72-hour waiting period that Texas Family Code Section 2.204 normally imposes. Without the certificate, you must wait 72 hours after receiving the license before the ceremony. The license is good for 90 days after issuance.

Both parties must be at least 18 years old. Applicants who were recently divorced should be aware that Texas Family Code Section 2.009 requires a 30-day wait after a divorce is final before a new license can be issued, unless a judge waives this requirement.

Certified copies of Camp County marriage licenses come only from the Camp County Clerk. The Texas DSHS Vital Statistics Section maintains a statewide index from 1966 and can issue verification letters for $20 per record, but that office does not issue certified copies. The county that issued the license is the only source for a certified copy.

For mail requests, send to the Camp County Clerk at 126 Church Street, Room 102, Pittsburg, TX 75686. Include both parties' full names, the approximate date of the marriage, and payment by money order or check. Certified copies bear the clerk's seal and signature, making them legally valid for name changes, government documents, insurance, and other official uses.

Informal Marriage in Camp County

Texas law under Family Code Section 2.401 recognizes informal marriage. Couples in Camp County can register this type of marriage at the county clerk's office by signing a Declaration of Informal Marriage. Once signed and recorded, it has the same legal effect as a formal marriage license.

To establish an informal marriage without a declaration, three elements are required: both parties agreed to be married, they lived together in Texas as spouses, and they represented themselves to others as married. All three elements must be present. Signing the declaration at the county clerk's office is the simplest way to document the relationship and avoid future legal disputes about its existence.

Note: An informal marriage dissolves through the same legal process as a formal marriage. You must file for divorce to legally end the relationship.
