Both applicants must appear in person together at the Hill County Clerk's office. Each person needs a valid government-issued photo ID and their Social Security number. Your license expires after 90 days. If you don't use it, you must start over. Plan your ceremony date so it falls within the 90-day window before going to apply.

Informal Marriage Registration
Texas law permits informal marriage under Texas Family Code Section 2.401. Couples can register an informal marriage in Hill County by going to the clerk's office and signing a Declaration of Informal Marriage. That document becomes part of the public record with the same legal effect as a formal license.
An informal marriage can also be established without a declaration if a couple can demonstrate that they agreed to be married, lived together in Texas as spouses, and held themselves out to others as married.
